Blood of Innocents cannot gain good, warns Cardinal

COLOMBO (News 1st); The head of Sri Lanka's Catholic Church His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith reprimanded the government for not allowing investigations to continue over the conspiracy surrounding the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

"Why can't they continue with investigations on the conspiracy over the Easter Sunday Attacks. Where are the investigations they promised? If they are not at fault, why are they not allowing for an independent investigation?," he told a special service held on Thursday (21) at the St. Anthony's Shrine in Kochchikade to remember the victims of the 2019 Terror Attacks.

"Why are they not giving the freedom and strength to the investigating officers and why are they attempting to undermine the probe," he added.

He went on to note that only those who are guilty and are afraid they would be exposed, are the ones who would resort to the aforementioned attempts.

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith further stated that only those who are at fault will pass the blame onto others and hide.

His Eminence also claimed that the rule of law in Sri Lanka is being made a mockery, as those who are in charge of the law are also part of the Easter Attacks conspiracy.

"These individuals work towards securing the release of their associates when charged with a wrong, and then penalize their opponents even when there is no wrongdoing," he said.

His Eminence also noted that it is clear that there is no administrative mechanism for the implementation of the recommendations made by the Presidential Commission appointed to Investigate the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

"The promises made have been broken," he alleged adding the situation is such that those individuals are only implementing decisions that only suit them.

"They are making attempts to undermine the investigations. This brought about a great curse upon the country and a negative situation is being created as we've never seen before," he said.

"But those who took away many lives of innocent people will never be at peace. If someone tries to come into power by using the blood of innocent people for their benefit, it will arouse God's wrath against them and they will not be able to enjoy the benefits of being in power. They should keep this in mind," he said.
