COLOMBO (News 1st); Lohan Ratwatte, The Former State Minister of Prisons currently in a hot brew of controversy, told News 1st exclusively today that he didn’t carry any weapons into the Anuradhapura Prison.

“Nobody can carry weapons into prisons. I didn’t even take my phone inside”, asserted Ratwatte.

He added that the current allegations made against him as part of a mud-slinging campaign by certain factions as he had successfully controlled a collapsing prison system, and also was on the cusp of moving the Welikada Prison to Millawa, Horana.

“I decided to step down to allow investigations to proceed, as I don’t want to put the President and PM in a position of difficulty”, added the State Minister who retains his portfolio at another Ministry.

When asked about allegations that CCTV footage of the incident had been erased, he said that CCTV footage “could not be deleted just like that”.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
